通过分析把美国抽象表现主义画家分为两大类:从风格上看,以波洛克和德·库宁等为代表的画家把动作和姿态作为创作的基础,认为过程是至关重要的,被称为"行动绘画";以纽曼、罗斯科和马瑟韦尔等为代表的画家,讲究大片的统一的色形或色块,表达一种抽象的符号或形象性的作品,被称为"色域绘画"。

The American artists of abstract expressionism have not unified expressing style, it include of two groups. One is ＂the action drawing＂ , artists Jackson Pollock and Willem De Kooning is the represent- ative, which look on the action and attitude as the basis creating, and the process is all-important. Second group is called ＂the color range drawing＂ , a few important painters such as Barnett Newman, Mark Roth- ko and Robert Motherwell, who pay attention to the vast unified color shape or color piece to express a kind of abstract sign or image.
