Shakespeare Studies,Revenge Tragedy and Contemporary Poetry:An Interview with Professor John Kerrigan

John Kerrigan is one of Britain＇ s foremost literary critics of Shakespeare and poetry. He is professor of English at Cambridge University. He has published extensively on early modern literature, Romantic poetry, and contemporary British and Irish poetry. His edited book Shakespeare＇s Sonnets and A Lover＇s Complaint （1986） was widely acclaimed, and his Revenge Tragedy： Aeschylus to Armageddon （1996） won the Truman Capote Award for Literary Criticism. More recently, Archipelagic English ： Literature, History, and Politics 1603 - 1707 （2008） has been favoribly received. Qin Dan interviewed Professor Kerrigan on behalf of Foreign Literature Studies. This interview focuses on Shakespeare studies, revenge tragedy, and contemporary British poetry. Professor Kerrigan introduced the recent developments in Shakespeare studies and his research on the ＂ binding British poets＇ language＂ in Shakespeare, his understanding of revenge tragedy, contemporary concern for the physicality of houses and objects in domestic space, etc.
