The connotations of salvation in David Lodge' s Catholic novels are not one-sided alternatives between the human desire and the religious faith, which either respect the human desire, or reveal somewhat religious identity, or take the two attitudes with a development track in the plot sequence due to the times context. It is human nature itself that is composed by desire and reason, which is sometimes mutually exclusive, contrary on the surface, and sometimes complementary to each other, essentially harmonious. For this, the connotation of salvation in David lodge's Catholic novels is to save the human nature itself.
