The Nigerian tetralogy written by the Nigerian pioneer of postcolonial criticism Chinua Achebe presents vividly the conflict of the traditional African Igbo Culture and the western Eurocentric modern culture. It also involves the racial crisis and social dilemma caused by the cultural conflict. This paper aims to explore Achebe's thinking on the cultural conflict and the way to get out of the dilemma in a postcolo- nial context. After seeking industriously for the exit out of darkness, Achebe pointed that Nigeria and oth- er African colonized countries should hold on to their own good traditions and absorb the quintessence of the Western culture; otherwise they can never reshape the image of their nation, nor can they acquire their own racial identity and get finally out of trouble.
