文艺复兴时期兴起的西方人本理念冲破了中世纪神本思想的禁锢,激发了人的能动性和创造性,对西方的现代化进程起到了推动作用。在求真原则主导下的人本理念促进了个人主义的发展,具有消极的一面,需要在求善原则主导下的中国文化传统中得以合理扬弃,进而在中国的现代化进程中发挥积极作用。

Arising from the Renaissance, the humanistic idea in the West broke the shackles of the medieval God-oriented ideology and made considerable contributions to Western modernization by stimulating human initiative and creativity. Nevertheless, under the influence of the Western ＂truth-oriented＂ principle, the humanistic idea has facilitated the development of individualism, with aspects detrimental to social development. Thus, only modified in the Chinese cultural tradition under the influence of the ＂benevolence-oriented＂ principle, can the humanistic idea give an effective boost to China＇s modernization.
