论互文性给翻译造成的困难——以《红楼梦·金陵判词》典故英译为例

On Intertextuality Hampering Translating ——Taking Translation of Allusions in the Jinling Judgment of A Dream of Red Mansion as a Case

翻译是一项复杂艰巨的任务,该过程涉及选材、阅读原著、查阅资料、翻译、修改等。译者在该过程中会遇到各种困难。大家普遍认为翻译难,翻译比创作还难。造成困难的因素是方方面面的,其中之一就是互文性。热奈特将互文性分为三个亚范畴:引语、典故、剽窃。以《红楼梦.金陵判词》中的典故英译为例,说明典故互文给翻译造成的巨大困难。

Translating is a complicated activity. A complete translating process usually involves selecting the source text, understanding of the source text, consulting various kinds of materials, translating and correcting, in which the translator faces many difficulties. Scholars in this regard reach a consensus that translating is complex and difficult, and to some extent, it is even more difficult than creation. Of course, those difficulties are miscellaneous, one of which is intertextuality composed of citation, allusion and plagiary. Translating of allusions in the Jinling Judgment of A Dream of Red Mansion encounters great difficulty.
