摘要
"百足之虫,死而不僵"中"僵"应作"仆倒"理解。上古时期,"僵"的词义主要为"仆倒",之后"僵"又引申出"僵硬"之义。清朝晚期前"僵"的"仆倒"义被"僵硬"义取代,晚清时,"僵"萌生出"事情停滞不前"之义。
The word ＂Jiang＂ in the sentence ＂baichongzhizheng, si＇erbujiang＂ means ＂fall down＂, which lasted since ancient times but later it had a extented meaning ＂stiff＂. ＂fall down＂ was replaced by ＂stiff＂ before the late Qing Dynasty and another meaning ＂stagnation＇appeared.
