摘要
《埃涅阿斯纪》卷六中,西比尔曾告诫执意前往冥府的埃涅阿斯,称下去冥府容易,返回阳世艰难,但这种说法似乎正好与后来的情节相反。本文意图证明,在从冥府返回阳世的过程中,埃涅阿斯虽然不曾费力,但安奇塞斯和隐藏在安奇塞斯背后的诗人维吉尔却是大费周章,而他们之所以如此费力,目的是为了要向埃涅阿斯证明现世生活的意义,从而使之放弃宁愿待在冥府也不愿返回阳世的想法。
Sibyl in Aeneid VI warned Aeneas, who insisted on going down to the Hades, that the downward way from this world to the Hades is easy but the upward way back is very difficult. The subsequent events seem totally contrary to her warning. This essay argues that the great difficulty in the upward journey falls not on Aeneas but on Anchises and Virgil who stands behind Anchises. This essay also argues that the great difficulty here means the great difficulty in proving the worthiness of human life in this world for Aeneas and in making him renounce his preference for the Hades rather than worldly life.
