An obligately chemolithoautotrophic bacterium using CO 2 as sole carbon source for growth was isolated from soil. The optimum growth pH and temperature were 7.0 and 30℃, respectively. Ammonium or nitrate nitrogen was well utilized for growth. At the optimum growth conditions(g L -1 :NH 4CL 4.0, Na 2HPO 4·12H 2O 0.75, KH 2PO 4 0.5, MgSO 4·7H 2O 0.3;H 2∶O 2∶CO 2=3.5∶1∶1; pH=7), 1.6 mg cell dry weight/ml broth was obtained with 718 mg protein/g cell dry weight within 40 hours in a close culture system.
