英语科幻小说中的新词及其汉译探析

On the E-C Translation of Neologisms in Science Fiction

科幻小说中的新词是小说作者所构思的与现实情境迥然不同的科幻元素在词汇层面上的具体体现,如何将科幻新词及其蕴含的"新奇"元素恰如其分地移植到译入语中,是翻译科幻小说时时常遭遇的问题之一。本文结合大量实例探讨了英语科幻新词的常见类型以及英译汉时译者应当遵循的原则和需要特别注意的问题。

Neologisms are the materialization on the lexical level of new ideas and situations depicted in science fiction. How to transplant the coined words and expressions complete with their ＂newness＂ or ＂alienness＂ into the target language is one of the primary issues that the SF translator has to deal with. This paper probes into the main characteristics of neologisms in science fiction before ex- amining the construction and categories of SF neologisms in English. The principles that the translator should abide by as well as other points for attention in the E-C translation of SF neologisms are also discussed.
