American literature in the Post-9/11 era is marked by a sustained interest in representing the 9/11 event. In his novel Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer focuses upon the psychological trauma the average people have suffered. In revealing how his characters cope with their problems, he metaphorically proposes the possible way out of the national psychological trauma. He employs evocative devices to yield a text that involves the readers in its meaning production and re-examination of the dominant political discourse, therefore actualizing "poethics" of trauma writing.
