从20世纪初开始,中国绘画作品中的农民形象伴随着一些具体的社会问题逐渐多了起来。艺术家利用绘画图像从不同视角呈现了不同时期农民的生活状态和精神面貌,其中有真实再现和反映农民苦难生活状况的,也有出于政治需要对农民生活和农民形象进行热情歌颂和虚饰美化的,还有出于艺术家的社会责任感,自觉对与农民相关的一些问题进行全面反思与关注的。
