A Comprehensive Review of Ci Development in Tang and Five Dynasties

在词的发展过程中,唐五代时期是它发展成熟的重要阶段。词最早发展于民间,初唐时期的民间词题材广泛,感情真挚而朴实。及至盛唐以后,词被文人所掌握,文人词一方面汲取民间词中的营养,另一方面更加注重声律的和谐与语言的优美,而且注重兴象,有所寄托。五代后期以李煜为代表的词,造语精丽,意境开阔,对其后宋词的兴盛起了积极作用,完成了由"伶工之词"向"士大夫之词"的重要转变。

In the development of Ci,Tang and Five Dynasties were an important stage in its maturity.With folk origin,Ci had a very wide range of subjects and cordial and plain feelings in early Tang Dynasty.Since the heydays of Tang dynasty,Ci had been controlled by scholars.On the one hand,Ci of the scholars drew nutrition from folk Ci,and on the other hand,it paid more attention to the harmony of rhythm and the elegance of language.In late Five Dynasties,the Ci represented by Li Yu that was gorgeous in language and generous in artistic conception played a positive role in prospering the Ci of Song Dynasty,and helped the significant transformation from the 'Ci of the singers or dancers' to 'Ci of scholars'.
