摘要
《息·望·忆》是一部移民题材的女性小说,在男性角色的建构方面凸显两大特点:男性角色的缺失;男性角色的社会表征意义。小说主要塑造三个男性角色:强奸犯,马克,约瑟夫,他们在小说中鲜有提及,但被赋予明确的社会表征意义,主宰女性角色的命运。
Breath, Eyes, Memory is a women＇s novel with the theme of immigrants. It has two marked characteristics as regards to the construction of male characters： the absence of male character; the social symbolism of male character. Three male figures were created in this novel： the rapist, Marc, Joseph. They were rarely mentioned, but were endowed with specific symbolism, and dominated the fate of females.
