Opportunity and Challenge in China's Economic Development

抓住国际机遇是中国经济发展的重要条件和紧迫任务。中国经济在世纪之交面临着国际政治多极化趋势、世界经济全球化浪潮、高新技术迅猛发展、发达国家产业结构调整、亚洲经济强劲复苏所带来的历史机遇。同时 ,潜在的政治压力和现实挑战有增大趋势 ;经济全球化的“双刃剑”作用增加了经济发展的风险 ;国际市场的竞争更加激烈。必须坚定不移地坚持中央正确的方针政策 ,把握机遇 ,正视挑战 ,趋利避害 ,乘势而进。

This paper deals with the Chinese economic development which is now facing opportunity as well as challenge from abroad. At the turn of the century, great changes are taking place in the whole world where international politics is becoming pluralistic, international economy is going globalized, high-tech is advancing rapidly, and the Asian economy is recovering strongly. All these have brought about lots of opportunities for developing China's economy. At the same time, however, there is potential political pressure and challenge coming from the intensely growing international market competition. Moreover, the globalized world economy is a ' double-edged ' sword which contributes to increasing the risk in developing economy. Thus, in the present situation, we should stick to the correct policies of the Party Central Committee and keep on developing our economy by making good use of the opportunity and dealing effectively with the challenge.
