In the Republican Period, grain was a kind of bulk commodity in Guangxi market and brokers were active in grain market of all levels. In primary markets, brokers worked as communicators between grain producers and shops; in middle markets, brokers were responsible for grain distribution and trans-portation; in central markets, brokers played a critical role in both sales in local market and sales in other provinces.
