从循道培德会观民国佛山基督教的本色化

The Localization of Foshan Christianity in the Republic of China——from the view of the Methodist Peide Association

近代以来,西方基督教会开始在佛山立足并发展。进入20世纪,受到基督教界社会改良思潮以及新文化运动等思想的影响,佛山循道培德会得以成立。此会虽隶属于基督教循道会,但却以融通中西、改良社会为己任,通过开办学校、创办刊物、提供娱乐等形式向广大佛山民众传播现代文明。培德会的发展既是基督教本色化的突出表现,也是佛山近代化的重要推手。

In modern times, the Western Christianity got access to Foshan and experienced development. At the beginning of the 20th century, under the influence of social reform ideological trend from the Christian community and the New Culture Movement, Foshan Methodist Peide Association had been es- tablished. Although the association was part of Christian Methodist church, it was committed to mer- ging Chinese and western culture and improving social wellbeing. Through schools, publications, and other forms of entertainments, Peide Association disseminates the modern civilization to the general public of Foshan. The development of Methodist Peide Association is not only the performance of locali- zation of Christianity, but also the important driving force for Foshan modernization.
