Restoration and Conservation of the Spring-and-Autumn Period Bronze Upright-Drum Stand with Coiled Dragon Design Unearthed from Tomb No.4 at Jiuxian in Yexian County

叶县旧县四号墓铜蟠龙建鼓座出土时已严重损坏,只残留器的四分之一弱,经文物保护工作者的努力,这件造型精美奇特、纹饰线条流畅、制作工艺精湛、复合内范芯技术独特、蟠龙盘绕穿梭巧妙、独具匠心的艺术作品得以修复复原,充分展示了春秋时期工匠高超的青铜铸造技术与丰富的想象力和创造力。

The bronze upright -drum stand with coiled dragon design from Tomb No. 4 at Jiuxian in Yexian County had been badly damaged when it was yielded from the excavation - site. Its remains are only a little less than one - fourth of the original object. Thanks to the efforts of antiquarian conservators this wonderful work of art has restored its fineness and peculiarity in form, line smoothness in decoration, exquisiteness in craftsmanship, ingenuity in the use of compound mold cores, and cleverness in the conception of the interlaced coiled dragon design. All these features perfectly exhibit the superb skill of Spring - and - Autumn Period handicraftsmen in bronze casting and their rich imaginative and creative power.
