Can the Conventional Problem of Simultaneity Be Settled?

One of the most debated questions in the foundations of the special theory of relativity concerns the con- ventional problem of simultaneity. In the past three decades particularly, a stream of conflicting analyses of the prob- lem involved have been introduced both into physics and into the philosophy of physics. After investigating some fea- tures and drawbacks of three de - conventional approaches including their recent variations from a historical point of view, we show that the deconventionalists cannot vindicate their claim that simultaneity is nonconventional.
