National Specialized Universities in China: Strategic Goals and Challenges

部属行业特色型大学是我国高等教育体系的重要组成部分。国家通过高等教育建设工程对部属行业特色型大学做出了三个层次的目标定位,各部属行业特色型大学也结合自身实际制订了涵盖"研究型"、"高水平"、"多科性"大学三个维度的目标定位。在实现目标定位过程中,部属行业特色定型大学应积极应对教育管/共建体制不完善、部属行业特色型大学办学同构化趋向、学科结构优化与学科优势保持及高层次学术型人才培养等方面的挑战。

National Specialized Universities （NSUs） are important players in Chinese higher education system. Central government conducts 3 - tiers role differentiation acts for NSUs through higher education construction projects while NSUs also set up their own strate- gic goals that cover three features, namely, research -based, high -level, and multidisciplinary. However, NSUs are confronting the challenges of underdeveloped joint development system, institutional isomorphism among NSUs, the dilemma between optimizing discipli- nary structure and strengthening well - established disciplines, and the promotion of high level academic talents cultivation.
