Wang Shizhen＇s study of Du Fu was characterized most prominently by his special research thought and methods under the guideline of combining Confucian thought and his romantic charm theory. He viewed Du＇s poems as ＂Du Fu＇s devout eloquence＂ and believed that ＂with sincere loyalty and patriotism, they are faithful to the current events and highly regarded as historical poems＂, ＂what they are far better than others is its faithfulness to the reality＂, and that their artistic greatness lay in the ＂grand narrative recording current events faithfully with new poetic meters＂, ＂which is fu＇s advantage, with the function of analogy？ and punning＂. Additionally, Wang did an extensive research on Du Fu. For example, he conducted field studies to Du＇s living thought and poem content, did text research on certain names and descriptions in Du＇s poems, on their different versions, and studied Du＇s influence on the great poets of the later period from the perspective of communications.
