On the Definition of Metaphorical Competence

摘要 本文首先对以往国内外研究者对隐喻能力的定义进行了梳理,认为以往隐喻能力研究未区分其理论定义和操作定义,从而未能反映出隐喻能力的本质特征。然后从古典隐喻理论、认知与心理学中的隐喻理论、语用学隐喻理论和应用认知语言学理论对隐喻核心问题的认识中寻找理论依据,提出了新的隐喻能力理论定义并对其内涵进行分析,最后指出隐喻能力研究尚未解决的问题。 This paper first summarizes the previous studies on the definition of metaphorical/metaphoric competence ( MC ) and points out that the previous studies didn' t distinguish between the theoretical and operational definitions, and thus failed to reveal the distinctive feature of MC. Based on the analysis on the essence of metaphor in classical metaphor theory, cognitive and psychological Xinguistics, pragmatics and applied cognitive Xinguistics, this paper proposes a new definition of MC and analyzes its connotations, and points out the questions to be solved.
