The Sound and the Fury, which was on the list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th centurY by the Modem Library in 1998, is one of the representatives set in Faulkner＇ s fictional Yoknapatawpha County. Many of his techniques of construction have drawn critical attention, such as narration from various points of view, stream of consciousness, the use of Biblical stories and symbols, etc. However, this paper focuses on the technique of juxtaposition, namely,the use of the tale told by the idiot Benjy, like a moral mirror, to provide an unbiased insight into the true motivations of the Compson Family and the servants so as to expose the process of the decadence and dissolution of the family, as well as the social significance of conflicts between tradition and reality.
