From Confliction to Integration:The Process of Localism of Catholicism in Vietnam

天主教在传入越南的初期是与其传统文化相冲突的,但是后来却显现了相互融合的趋势,并在信仰和礼仪层面形成了具有本土特色的越南天主教。天主教与越南传统文化融合是与天主教在全球的广泛传播、越南宗教文化的包容性、宗教界人士的积极推动分不开的。这种融合现象充分说明了不同文化之间是可以和谐共生、共存共荣的。

When first introduced to Vietnam, Catholicism conflicted with Vietnamese traditional culture. Later, however, the foreign religion gradually integrated with the local culture, and developed into Vietnamese Catholi-cism, a unique Catholic branch with Vietnamese characteristics in belief and rite. The integration between Catholi-cism and Vietnamese traditional culture resulted from the worldwide spread of Catholicism, the adaptability of Viet-namese religious culture, and the promotion of religious pioneers. The integration shows that different cultures can co-exist and develop together in a harmonious way.
