摘要美国女作家凯特.肖班的代表作《觉醒》是她呼唤中产阶级女性挣脱男权社会制度的束缚,实现女性自我意识觉醒的扛鼎之作。小说主人公埃德娜不屈不挠的探求自我,实现从"真女性"向"新女性"的自我转变过程,反映了美国转型时期逐渐觉醒的女性意识。 The Awakening, written by Kate Chopin（ 1851 - 1904 ） , is one of the classical works of American feminist literature. It appeals to the middle class women to get rid of the fetter of male dominated society and to realize the female consciousness. Adna who is the heroine in The Awakening perseveres in achieving the goal of self realization during her whole life. Her transition from ＂true woman＂ to ＂new woman＂ reveals the awakening fe- male consciousness in the transitional period of America.
