Zhang Jingsheng is one of the intellectual pioneers of the 20th century Chinese intelligentsia. His idea of ＂Aesthet- ic Recreation＂ is an important part of his philosophy of life and social ideals which uphold aesthetic education as the core principle. Therefore, salvaging and sorting out his idea of ＂aesthetic recreation＂ is helpful to re-establishing his position in the ideological and cultural history of modem China and providing inspiration for developing and practicing leisure today.
