On Confucian Values' Contemporary Significance

随着中国进入改革开放的新时期,我国社会也进入了一个现代性追求的历史时期。现代性开启于西方,有着物质主义与自我主义的趋向。中国传统的儒家伦理的人文主义,是我们克服市场经济引发的现代道德问题有价值的传统资源。同时,当代中国对现代性的追求,也是对社会主义政治民主的追求,儒家人文主义同样也是重要的价值资源。

Now China＇ s society has gone into the new historical period of modernization since the opening up to the outside world and reform. Modernization began in the western society, which has its materialism and egoism. Confucian ethics of Chinese tradition is the traditional resources for overcoming the moral problems which occur un- der the circumstance of market economy. Meanwhile, seeking for modernization in China is also seeking for political democracy of socialism and Confucian humanism is also one important value resource.
