汉语高频词汇英译举隅

English Translation of Chinese High Frequency Words

词汇是最基本的、最稳定的翻译单位。但是,词汇翻译并非简单的字字对译,有很多词汇无法直接对应。原因在于:词汇除了基本意义之外,还有搭配意义、修辞意义、联想意义以及文化意义。不同的语言中基本意义相似的词汇,可能在其他意义层面有所不同。译者必须对这些意义有完整的把握,要充分了解原词的文化内涵。文中选取几个汉语高频词汇作为分析对象,从不同的意义层面探讨其英语对应语。

A word is the most basic and stable unit of translation.However,translating words does not necessarily mean matching words,for words which share basic meanings in different languages may differ in other levels of meaning,say,stylistic meaning,collocational meaning or rhetorical meaning.In order to find equivalents in TT,the translator should be fully aware of the meaning of the ST words on different levels.This paper analyzes the equivalents of several Chinese words of high frequency,thereby calling for more researches into this field.
