“天”与“地”概念英汉翻译的跨文化解读

Heaven and Earth: a Study of their Chinese and English Translation from a Cross-cultural Perspective

"天"与"地"在中国和西方都与民族起源和创世神话紧密相连,作为一对基本的文化概念,二者拥有丰富且不同的文化内涵。近年,随着跨文化交际的不断发展,以中英文互译为代表的语言交流变得越来越重要。基本文化概念的有效互译不仅增进了中西方之间的理解,也推动了不同文化间的沟通。本文以中国文化以及西方文化为背景,对"天"与"地"在两种文化中的渊源、历史、定义、内涵以及宗教、哲学和文学三个方面的翻译进行了比较,以跨文化研究的视角重新审视二者,讨论这些概念各自代表的社会与文化主流意识形态的差异,以期为翻译的文化研究及跨文化交际的进一步研究带来启示。

Both in Chinese and Western culture,＂heaven＂and ＂earth＂ have been closely linked with the racial origin and creation myth.As two basic concepts,they have abundant but different cultural connotations.And the effective translation of the basic cultural connotations does not only enhance mutual understanding but also promote the communication between Chinese and Western world.Using two kinds of culture as background,this paper intends to conduct a comparative study on origins,histories,definitions,connotations of ＂heaven＂ and ＂earth＂ and their translations.Examples are taken from three domains： religion,philosophy and literature.By examining their social,cultural and ideological differences from a cross-cultural perspective the authors attempt to shine some lights on the further cultural study of translation and cross-cultural communication.
