On ZHU Xi's Methods and Ways of Scientific Research

朱熹研究过自然界事物,其研究途径和方法主要有三个方面:观察各种自然现象,阐发前人科学成果和运用类比推理。通过这些研究途径和方法,朱熹获得了不少科学知识。但是,朱熹科学研究的途径和方法也存在一些理论缺陷,这也导致他对自然事物作出了一些错误的解释。但就整体而言,朱熹科学研究的途径和方法包含了不少合理的东西,因而能够使得他在长期的科学研究过程中取得一定的科学成就。

When studying the natural things, ZHU Xi mainly employs three methods： observation of natural phenomenon, interpretation of the scientific results of the predecessors, and the use of analogy. By these methods and ways, ZHU Xi acquires a lot of scientific knowledge. Yet there were some defects in ZHU Xi＇s methods and ways of scientific research, which resulted in some misinterpretation of natural things. But on the whole ZHU Xi＇s methods and ways of scientific research contain a lot of reasonable ele ments, which enables him to have achieved certain scientific accomplishments in the long process of scien tific research.
