Yunnan's Treaty Ports in Early Modern Times

正确认识并比较中国近代经济社会发展中自身因素和西方影响这两个因素的作用,客观看待以"冲击—反应"模式为内容的西方中心观和从内部寻找城市发展动力的中国中心观,以全球史观视野下的早期经济全球化为视角,对云南通商口岸开埠的原因、云南经济发展的作用及其历史意义进行重新的诠释,最后提出在尊重历史的基础上,发展并落实当前的桥头堡建设。

The paper studies the domestic factors and the Western influence in the socio -economic development in early modem China and analyzes the West - centered Approach based on the Impact - Response Model and the China - centered Approach with its urban development based on internal motive forces. The paper gives a new interpretation of Yunnan＇ s treaty ports, including their emer- gence, role and historical significance to the economic development of Yunnan in the perspective of the early economic globalization with a global view of history. The paper finally brings up some suggestion for implementing the strategy of building Yunnan into a gate- way to the outside world.
