A Study of the Legendary Existence of All Qiu Yuan's Works

丘园,字屿雪,常熟人,是昆曲苏州派的重要成员,生平作全本传世传奇3种,即《党人碑》、《幻缘箱》和《御袍恩》。《党人碑》以北宋徽宗年间发生的真实历史事件为背景,塑造了与权奸蔡京不屈不挠斗争的孤忠形象刘逵;《幻缘箱》叙演茂苑诸生方瑞生与刘婉云、陈月娥的婚爱故事;《御袍恩》剧演宋真宗时河西节度使高琼在抗击西夏犯境过程中与卖国求荣的权奸作殊死斗争的故事。三剧一个相似的模式是:大致以历史影射现实,借以总结明亡的历史教训。这也是昆曲苏州派的一个普遍特点。

Born in Changshu, Qiu Yuan, who styled himself Qiu Yuxue, was an important figure from Suzhou Kunqu Opera School in the late Ming and the early Qing dynasty. In his life, he wrote three romances in completed versions, namely, Clique Elements＇Steles, Huanyuan Chest, and Grace of the Imperial Robe, the first of which shapes Liu Kui, an image of an unyielding loyal and upright official, against Cai Jing, a traitorous image in power on the basis of the real-life historical events in the Northern Song dynasty. Huanyuan Chest describes the love and marriage stories between Fang Duansheng and Liu Wanyun and Chen Yue＇e, while Grace of the Imperial Robe depicts the stories of the life-and-death struggles between Gao Qiong, a remote region army commander in Hexi, and traitorous officials in power in the resistance against the invaders from the Western Xia Kingdom. One thing the three dramas have in common is that they all make use of historical events to insinuate real life, which is a universal feature of all the dramas of Suzhou Kunqu Opera School.
