本文在肯定上海近年来住宅发展巨大成就的同时，指出了在住宅设计中存在着的误区．提出建筑师应能为社会上不同 经济与文化层次的人们设计符合于他们的物质与精神生活要求的住宅。为了提高住宅设计质量，建筑师应立足于现实 研究２０世纪国内外住宅设计中各种经验的来龙去脉．制定适合自己任务性质的设计策略。

The speaker, in recognizing the big achievements of housing development in shanghai, at the same time pointed out some of the faultiness in design approach, then suggested that architects should learn to answer the material needs as well as the spiritual needs of people of different economic and cultural levels in the society. In order to enhance the quality of design, the architects can review the cause and affect of different experience of housing design of the 20 century.
