This paper outlines the multi-disciplinary approach in which, forensic pathologists, forensic anthropologists, tool- mark and rnicrotrace experts at the Netherlands Forensic Institute work together to link observed injuries to a suspected weapon or, in case of an unknown weapon, to indicate a group of objects which may have served as a weapon. The multi-disciplinary method is illustrated with a case example. Results from the different disciplines are complementary and can be combined to reach a conclusion with a stronger probative value. This is not only useful in the courtroom but above all, in criminal investigations to direct and refine the search for a probable weapon.
