近代以后中国的剧场建筑基本上沿袭了与古代西方观演建筑—脉相承的西方现代剧场建筑形制，而以戏台为代表的中国传统戏剧观演空间则几乎被遗忘。文章意在透过中西方戏剧文化的演进和交流这一层面，剖析和比较两种传统观演场所的空间实质和文化内涵，为当代的观演建筑的发展提供一些启示。
