Four years after the May 12, 2008 Earthquake in Wenchuan, Sichuan Province, the reconstruction and development of the disaster-struck ethnic areas are meeting with new challenges. Based on on-the-spot investigation and literature review, this article discusses how dark tourism, characterized by providing tourists with such educational opportunities as commemorating the victims and cultivating gratitude for rescue efforts through visiting ruin sites, can help promote the reconstruction of the ethnic town of Yingxiu, located in the epicenter area of the Wenchuan Quake. The paper argues that dark tourism, if scientifically planned and regulated , can be a realistic approach to the post-quake reconstruction of ethnic communities
