In the 20th century, especially in the post-war literature, the traditional grand narrative was no longer praised or promoted. Instead, it was decomposed or overthrown. The American work On the Road and Japanese work Norwegian Woods were the typical examples. The reason had its deep social and historical background. The rapid economic development in America and Japan after the war, the conservative polities, the void spiritual world of the people, the indifference between people, the loss of faith, the confusion and puzzle, the incredulity of sublimity, etc. all these reasons led to the appearance of the two books.
