In view of the frequent grounding accidents of harbor tugs, fire boats and other work boats at their work ing wharves, backed by author＇s own experiences, the importance of establishing devoted simply equipped tidal ob servatories for preventing these grounding accidents is discussed. The construction and operation, and the scope of application of the observatories with some points for attention are illustrated in details. It is proved by practice that the suggested simply equipped tidal observatories are practical and reliable for preventing groundings.
