近代西方传教士曾在中国穆斯林中进行过长达百年的传教活动,其宣教活动经过知识与经验方面的准备阶段以后,自1917年开始进入了兴盛阶段。兹威默于1917年和1933年两次来华指导宣教工作,对基督教在华穆斯林传教运动影响深远。此外,基督教会对中国穆斯林的传教活动也逐步向着跨宗派和组织化的方向发展,在中国出现了专门负责向穆斯林布道的组织——布道回族特委会及其后续组织中国穆民交际会。

In modem history, western missionaries did evangelization work among Chinese Muslims for almost a century, dating back to the end of the 19th century. After a period of preparation, western missionaries accumulated some knowledge and experience for the evangelization of Chinese Muslims. Since 1917 their preaching work among Chinese Muslims entered a prosperous period. Samuel M. Zwem- er came to China to guide the missionary work in 1917 and 1933, which had great significance on the Protestant Christian Missions to Chinese Muslims. Meanwhile, western missionaries＇ work among Chinese Muslims developed in a planned and organized way with the appearance of a special organization ＂Special Committee for Muslim Work＂, and its follow-up organization ＂Society of the Friends of Moslems in China＂.
