Language Pollution in an Opening-Up Environment——On Chinglish in Public Bulletins and Signboards

我国各城镇市区及旅游景点的公共告示标识中,越来越多地出现中英文并存的情况,但由于种种原因,许多这些英文译文已经成为一种语言污染,造成不良影响并成为人们的笑柄,不利于城市形象。作者在广州市区实时拍摄到一些"问题英文",论文加以分析,以期纠正错误,引起管理部门和翻译人员的重视,以期加强管理,清除这类语言污染。

Where it is good that in urban area and scenic spots in towns and cities in China more and more public bulletins and signboards can be seen with English .translation, much has turned out as a kind of language pollution for their incorrectness, some even become laughing stock, thus harming the city images. The author is trying to analyze the phenomenon on the real photos taken around the city of Guangzhou of some of these Chinglish signboards in the hope that authorities and translators concerned could see to it that the same can be corrected to make our environment cleaner and healthier.
