国家图书馆与民国时期索引编纂

National Library of China and Index Compilation in the Republic of China Period

索引在中国起源甚早,而从古典索引向现代索引的转变则是在民国时期。在＂索引运动＂的推动下,许多著名学者都投入到索引研究与编纂的行列。当时参与索引编纂的,既有个人与集体,又有专门的索引编纂机构,后者又处于主要地位。国立北平图书馆（国家图书馆前身）索引组是民国时期与燕京大学哈佛燕京学社引得编纂处齐名的索引编制机构,所编报刊索引、专题索引还更胜一筹。

Though index originated in China very early, it was in the Republic of China Period that the transformation from classical index to modern index happened. Under the promotion of Index Movement, many famous scholars devoted themselves to index research and compilation. Both indi- vidual and collective were involved in index compilation in the period, and specialized agency was set up which was the predominant. Beiping National Library （ the predecessor of National Library of China）, which was the same position with Harvard -Yenching Institute in index compilation, was famous for its press index and topic index.
