长江流域在我国经济发展中占有极其重要的战略地位。50年来,该流域治理开发取得巨大成绩,但尚不能适应国民经济和社会发展的需要。21世纪,长江流域治理开发仍以防洪减灾为重点,全面实施水资源综合利用和优化配置,保护水资源,以保障长江水资源可持续利用。

The Yangtze River Basin has a significant strategic position in national economic development in China. In the past 50 years, much achievement have been gotten for the basin harnessing and development but that still can not meet the demand of national economy and social development. In the 21st century, harnessing and development of the Yangtze River Basin will stick to flood control and disaster mitigation as a focal point and implement water resources comprehensive utilization and optimal distribution in full extent to protect water resources and ensure sustainable water resources utilization in the Yangtze River Basin.
