China possesses the broadest loess plateau and earth-and-rock mountains in the world and most of them are areas with frequent storms. Each year storms wash away a great deal of mud and sand, which form wide plains of accumulation in the middle and downstream areas of rivers. There are lots of wetlands among these accumulative plains. How to reasonably protect and utilize those wetlands to sustain biodiversity and sustainable development should be listed as a new subject of water conservancy business in the 21st century.
