As a multi-ethnic country, it is necessary for Singapore people to cultivate state identity. Ulysses by the Merlion written by Singapore poet Edwin Thumboo is known as "Singapore epic". By analyzing the history, race integration and totem depicted in the poem and the language of this poem from the per- spective of Stockholm syndrome, it is obvious that the state identity which it tried to appeal is actually a kind of distorted psvchology growing under colonization.
