This paper is intended to introduce and explore three methods that are often used in second language research. They are, according to American linguists, Seliger and Shohamy (1989), named qualitative research, descriptive research, and experimental research, These methods for research design. or plan originate from a variety of methodologies which are often refered in research literature such as ethnography',' interaction analysis',' coghtive anthropology'.' ethnography of communication', and' symbolic interaction'. They are expected to help researchers see the insight of language phenomenon or behaviors and benefit language teachers in classroom.
