Over a long period of time, many critics have considered Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour" as a works of' femi- nism. But this essay explores the dramatized irony in this story, not only from the tide, the language, the relationship among the main characters, but also from the plot, the author's diary to reveal that though Chopin sympathizes the heroine, she puts bitter irony on her, meanwhile her attitude to the independent freedom is contradictory.
