Re remark on "Yangzhou First, Yizhou Second

“扬一益二”说起于中晚唐 ,多种史籍及近人论著对此均有阐释。但大多史论或对此说存在的时间说明不清楚 ,或对此说指代的政治、经济或文化意义交代不准确 ,造成后人的一些歧义。本文详校诸史 ,以为“扬一益二”是一种带有文化生活意义的城市商业经济繁荣的现象。“扬一益二”时期唐代的政治。

The statement of 'Yangzhou First, Yizhou Second' originates from the Mid late Tang Dynasty. Many historical records and modern historical books have given their explanations to it. But majority of historical argumentations have either stated ambiguously about its existing period of time, or made an inaccurate implication about its politics, economics and culture, thus causing the later scholars much misundstanding. The paper thinks, after carefully textual criticism, that the 'Yangzhou First, Yizhou Second' is an economically prosperous phenomenon of urban commerce with a cultural implication of life. During the period of 'Yangzhou First, Yizhou Second', the heart of politics and military of the Tang Dynasty still lay in Chang an and Luoyang.
