香港大多数医疗垃圾在填埋场处置，对环境和健康都存在着威胁。香港环保部计划改造化学废物高温焚烧炉来处理医疗垃圾，并制定了医疗垃圾控制方案对其实施正确管理，提出了新的医疗垃圾收运处理法规框架。新的实施细则也将制定以完善法律体系。

The majority of the clinical waste in Hongkong is currently disposed of at the landfills, but this poses potential health risk. The Environmental Protection Department plans to modify the high temperature incinerator at the Chemical Waste Treatment Center so as to ensure safe and complete destruction of clinical waste. The EPD is also developing a Clinical Waste Control Scheme for the proper management of such waste. The scheme proposes a new legislative framework to regulate waste. A statutory Code of Practice will complete the legal the collection, transportation and disposal of clinical framework.
