English abstract is a requirement of most journals and serves as an effective means to promote domestic and foreign academic exchanges. Nevertheless, a lot of English abstracts are literal or even word-for-word translations of the source texts, taking no measures to deal with cultureloaded expressions or logical problems that would pose comprehension obstacles to the target reader. This paper takes examples to illustrate the significance of translator's subjectivity in abstract translation and concludes that more flexible translation strategies should be adopted to help target readers better understand the source text on the premise of respecting the source author while striving for a normative and correct translation.
