Negative ambiguity, the most complex one of the ambiguity of semantic relations, is a knotty problem often encountered both in English leaning and teaching. By introducing the relationship between negative scopes and positions of negative words, the author discusses the causes of negative ambiguity and categorizes negative scopes in order to provide some new ideas for effective elimination of negative ambiguity.
